Where did you go to school and how did you decide your major?

I went to the University of Illinois. I knew I wanted to do something business related but also explore what else U of I has to offer. U of I has a good consumer economics and finance major which is what I decided on.

What has been your favorite part about Pathstone and healthcare consulting so far?

Pathstone – the people for sure. A smaller firm is truly where there is an emphasis on relationships. Having a team where I have already developed relationships within the first few months is great.

Healthcare Consulting – the clients. Making an actual impact with clients and getting to interact with them is meaningful. I didn’t get the opportunity to do that in previous roles.

You grew up around the Chicago area. If you had a weekend in Chicago, what would youEmployee Spotlight: Garrett recommend doing?

A lot of the weekend would be focused on food. I’d probably suggest a burger at Au Cheval or Loyalist, Cubs game (and head to Southport after), walk along the lake, and maybe a concert at Millenium Park. And visit the top of the Sears tower – I’ve lived my whole life in Chicago and still haven’t done this.

You seem to have been to many Chicago restaurants. What is your ultimate favorite?

I would say Sunda. I go there for a lot of celebrations, can always get in, and the food is always amazing (get the crispy rice). I’ve recently been to Itoko which is around my neighborhood. Another favorite spot from my time in the West Loop is Booze Box which is right below Sushi Dokku.

You like golf and reading. If you had to give up one, which would it be?

I’d probably give up golf even though my brother would not like that answer. There are just too many good books to read. I’ve recently started the book about the founder of Bonobos. It’s super interesting to learn about how he built the company. My favorite type of books to read are thrillers and fantasy books, like Lord of the Rings. I highly recommend visiting Ravinia – a cool event venue in the suburbs. A few summers back, I watched the Chicago Symphony Orchestra play the LOTR soundtrack over the movie.

What is one thing you are good at/proud of, but doesn’t really matter to anyone else?

I’d say it’s more like a category of things – mini games. Games that you play in gym class or when you’re 60+ years old. Pickleball, racquetball, things like that.  I can’t play basketball but I can spin a ball on my finger pretty well.
